How I stay Organized

Even though we live in a house that is bigger than some, the lack of storage is a major house fail.  That and the fact that there is no where in the house that I can go where I won’t hear my screaming children.

One of the ways that I try to stay organized is making sure that everything has a “home.”  My keys always go back in the same spot.  (Unfortunately, if my husband uses them, it is always a panic-filled search of our house.)

I make sure that on the very rare occasion that all my laundry is clean and folded, that I have a spot to put everything.  I am in a constant clothes purge.  I get so many clothes for cheap (at thrift stores) or as hand-me-downs that I really do need to purge often.  Also, for the last several years, I have been in a variety of sizes from pregnancy, so I need different sizes for post-partum.

I also have a planner that I use to help me feel organized.  Right now, I am in the midst of mostly survival mode and keeping track of appointments, but I also like to use my planner to map out meals and school and to make a basic checklist while I am at the house to make me feel successful.

There are a couple of things that I do to give the appearance of being organized.  And this is for me.  It doesn’t bother me that other people see it as messy, but I get overwhelmed when these areas are cluttered.  One, my bedroom.  Every morning I try to make my bed and get all the girls’ toys and boy diapers and clothes that have somehow magically snuck into my  bedroom throughout the night.  Number two, the bar top in the kitchen.  Ideally there is nothing on there but the broken fruit basket.  The bar helps hide the mess of a kitchen.

Now here is where I strug-gle:  Under sinks-there is just so much space, but no shelving or organization.  Junk drawer-I tried getting a silverware separator, but it just gave me less room for my junk.  Mail- oh mylanta.  And my teeny tiny pantry.

Do you have any suggestions?  Help a sister out!
