Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to read more? To read more to your children?
I am always in need of a good reminder to do this. Here is an example of how we explore books over and over again:
After reading the book several times, we gather what we need to reenact the story. In this story, we needed lots of carrots and a variety of animals. Fortunately, we had almost everything we needed. Small stuffed animals and beanie babies are life. I don’t know how we would store larger animals.
Don’t you just love those magnet letters? There are so many things you can do with them. We don’t focus too much on letters, but this was an easy way to introduce the first letters in the title.
Ideally children will eventually learn to pull the characters by themselves and retell the story well. Here is another example of where we explored Winter is for Snow.
How do you encourage reading at school or at home?
